Reserves
Reserves are the specific quantities of tokens held within a liquidity pool smart contract that are available for trading. These assets are deposited by liquidity providers who earn a portion of the transaction fees in exchange for providing the capital necessary to facilitate trades.
The size of the reserves directly impacts the price stability of the pool; larger reserves mean that individual trades have a smaller impact on the asset ratio, leading to lower slippage. When a trade occurs, tokens are moved in and out of these reserves according to the invariant formula.
The management and security of these reserves are critical, as they represent the total value locked in the protocol. Properly managing reserves is essential for maintaining deep liquidity and minimizing the risks associated with price volatility.
