Regime Change Sensitivity
Regime change sensitivity describes how vulnerable a trading strategy is to sudden shifts in the market environment, such as a transition from a low-volatility bull market to a high-volatility bear market. Cryptocurrency markets are particularly prone to these shifts due to rapid changes in liquidity, regulatory news, or sentiment.
A strategy that relies on a fixed set of assumptions about market behavior will likely fail when the underlying regime changes. Quantitative models must be designed to detect these shifts or be robust enough to operate across multiple regimes.
When a model is highly sensitive to a specific regime, it may perform perfectly during a rally but suffer massive losses when the trend reverses. Managing this risk requires monitoring the model performance against changing macro conditions.
