Quorum Requirements and Challenges
Quorum requirements are the minimum number of votes or token participation needed for a governance proposal to be considered valid and executable. Setting the right quorum is a delicate balancing act; if it is too high, the DAO may become paralyzed and unable to pass necessary updates.
If it is too low, the protocol is vulnerable to governance attacks where a small group can pass harmful changes. Challenges arise when community engagement fluctuates, making it difficult to consistently meet the required threshold.
Many DAOs have implemented dynamic quorum adjustments or secondary voting periods to address these issues. The goal is to ensure that every passed proposal represents a genuine community consensus while preventing the DAO from becoming stagnant.
It is a fundamental governance parameter that requires constant tuning based on the maturity and size of the community.
