Protocol Vulnerability Propagation

Protocol vulnerability propagation is the mechanism where a security flaw in a foundational smart contract creates risks for every application built on top of it. In a modular ecosystem, this is a major concern because the security of a derivative product is only as strong as its weakest dependency.

If a core lending protocol is hacked, the derivative exchange using that protocol as a collateral source will also be compromised. This requires a comprehensive approach to smart contract security that includes formal verification and constant monitoring of all external dependencies.

It is the digital equivalent of a systemic risk in traditional banking.
