Protocol Integration Risk
Protocol integration risk is the danger associated with connecting two or more independent smart contract systems. When a protocol integrates with another, it implicitly trusts the security, logic, and governance of the external system.
If the integrated protocol experiences a vulnerability or a governance takeover, the risk is transferred to the primary protocol. This risk is exacerbated by the speed of execution in DeFi, where an exploit can drain funds before human intervention is possible.
Mitigation strategies include thorough due diligence, circuit breakers, and gradual integration phases to limit exposure.
