## Protective Put

A protective put is an options trading strategy where an investor holds a long position in an underlying asset and simultaneously purchases a put option for that same asset. This strategy acts as an insurance policy for the investor's portfolio.

If the price of the underlying asset drops, the put option increases in value, which helps to offset the losses incurred on the long position. The investor pays a premium for the put option, which represents the cost of this downside protection.

This approach is particularly useful in volatile markets where an investor wants to maintain exposure to potential upside gains while limiting the risk of a significant price decline. In the context of cryptocurrencies, this can be used to hedge against sudden market crashes while still holding the underlying tokens.

The maximum loss is limited to the difference between the purchase price of the asset and the strike price of the put, plus the premium paid. The profit potential remains theoretically unlimited if the asset price rises significantly.

This strategy is a fundamental tool for risk management in both traditional and digital asset markets.
