## Portfolio Margin Risk

Portfolio Margin Risk refers to the systemic danger inherent in cross-margin systems where the failure of one position can lead to the liquidation of an entire portfolio. Because collateral is shared, a large loss in one asset can consume the margin supporting other, potentially profitable, positions.

This can trigger a cascade effect, where a trader is forced to close healthy positions just to maintain the minimum margin requirements of the account. Protocols mitigate this by calculating risk based on the net exposure of the entire portfolio rather than individual trades.

However, this remains a complex risk to manage for the individual trader. It requires a deep understanding of correlation between the assets in the portfolio.
