## Pairs Trading

Pairs trading is a classic statistical arbitrage strategy that involves identifying two assets with a high historical correlation and betting on the divergence of their prices. When the price of one asset moves significantly relative to the other, the trader goes short the outperforming asset and long the underperforming one, expecting the relationship to return to its mean.

This strategy is popular in the crypto market due to the high degree of co-movement between different tokens. It requires sophisticated tools to monitor correlations and execute trades simultaneously across different exchanges.

The risk is that the correlation breaks down permanently, perhaps due to a fundamental shift in one of the projects. Successful pairs trading requires not only mathematical rigor but also an understanding of the underlying tokenomics and fundamental drivers of each asset.
