Oracle Update Frequency
Oracle update frequency is the rate at which an oracle provider refreshes the price data it broadcasts to the blockchain. Higher frequency updates provide more accurate, real-time pricing but increase the gas costs associated with maintaining the feed.
Conversely, lower frequency updates save on costs but expose the protocol to the risk of stale data, which can be exploited during volatile market conditions. Finding the optimal frequency is a critical design choice for decentralized finance protocols.
Many systems now employ hybrid models, where updates are triggered based on a combination of time intervals and significant price deviations, ensuring responsiveness when the market is moving while conserving resources during stable periods.
