Option Greeks Sensitivity
Option Greeks are mathematical measures that describe how an option's price changes in response to various risk factors. Delta measures sensitivity to the underlying price, Gamma measures the rate of change of Delta, Vega measures sensitivity to volatility, and Theta measures the impact of time decay.
In the crypto derivatives market, these sensitivities are critical for managing complex portfolios. Because crypto assets move so violently, Gamma and Vega risks can escalate rapidly, leading to massive losses if not hedged correctly.
Traders use these Greeks to build delta-neutral portfolios or to speculate on specific changes in market conditions. Understanding how these sensitivities interact is what separates professional traders from retail participants.
For instance, as an option approaches expiration, Gamma increases, making the position much more sensitive to small price changes. This can lead to forced hedging, which itself moves the market and creates a feedback loop.
