Network hashrate security refers to the total computational power securing a Proof of Work blockchain. A higher hashrate indicates a more robust and expensive network to attack, as an adversary would need to acquire a massive amount of hardware and electricity to dominate the validation process.

This security metric is directly correlated with the confidence market participants have in the finality of transactions on that chain. For derivatives markets, a drop in hashrate can increase the risk of chain reorganization, leading to tighter margin requirements or the suspension of trading pairs.

It acts as a quantitative proxy for the cost of censorship or fraud within the network. Analysts monitor hashrate trends to forecast potential shifts in protocol security and the long-term viability of assets used as collateral.
