Mutex Locks

A mutex lock is a security mechanism used in smart contracts to prevent reentrancy by ensuring that only one function can access a critical state at a time. When a function is called, it sets a boolean flag to true, and if another call is attempted while that flag is true, the transaction reverts.

This simple design pattern is highly effective at preventing attackers from recursively calling into a function. However, it must be implemented correctly across all functions that modify the same state to be effective.

If a developer forgets to apply the lock to a specific function, the entire security measure can be bypassed. It is a fundamental tool for securing state-sensitive logic.
