## Model Calibration Error

Model calibration error happens when the parameters fed into a pricing model do not accurately reflect the current market state. Models are calibrated using historical data, which may not capture the current regime of market volatility or structural changes.

If the input data is flawed or the model is over-fitted to past performance, the resulting price estimates will be wrong. This leads to mispricing of options and incorrect hedge ratios.

In cryptocurrency, where regimes change rapidly, static calibration is particularly dangerous. A model calibrated during a bull market will drastically underestimate risk during a bear market.

This error is hidden until a volatility spike exposes the gap between the model output and market reality.
