Margin Engine Stress
Margin engine stress refers to the technical and financial pressure placed on a protocol's mechanism for managing collateral and debt when market conditions deteriorate. The engine must calculate margin requirements, monitor account health, and execute liquidations in real-time, often during periods of extreme network congestion or high volatility.
If the engine cannot process these tasks fast enough, or if the price feeds it relies upon become stale or manipulated, the protocol risks becoming under-collateralized. This stress is often amplified by rapid shifts in asset correlation, which can cause collateral values to plummet while debt values remain constant.
Ensuring the robustness of this engine is a core challenge in DeFi derivatives design.
