## Liquidity Consumption

Liquidity consumption is the process by which market participants remove existing orders from the order book. This occurs when an aggressive order matches with a passive order resting on the other side of the market.

Every trade involves one side providing liquidity and the other side consuming it. In decentralized exchanges using automated market makers, liquidity consumption shifts the pool reserves and adjusts the asset price according to a mathematical formula.

Rapid liquidity consumption often precedes high volatility, as it depletes the available depth that buffers against price swings. Traders analyze consumption rates to determine the strength of a price move or the potential for a reversal.

Sustained high consumption indicates active participation and strong conviction in the current market direction.
