Last Trading Day

The last trading day is the final date on which an option or futures contract can be bought or sold before it expires. After this day, the position can no longer be closed or adjusted, and it must either be settled in cash or result in the delivery of the underlying asset.

For traders, this is a hard deadline that requires decisive action. If a position is held past the last trading day, the trader is subject to the settlement rules of the exchange.

Knowing this date is vital for avoiding accidental exercise or unintended delivery obligations. It is the final operational milestone for any derivative contract.
