Governance Power
Governance power is the influence a participant has over the decision-making process of a decentralized protocol, usually proportional to the amount of tokens they hold or stake. This power allows users to vote on protocol upgrades, parameter changes, and the allocation of treasury funds.
In many systems, governance is a critical aspect of token utility, giving holders a voice in the future direction of the project. However, it also introduces risks such as governance capture, where a small group of wealthy holders might exert undue influence.
Balancing the distribution of governance power is a major challenge in designing truly decentralized organizations. Understanding how governance power is exercised and distributed is essential for evaluating the long-term resilience and community alignment of a project.
