Fair Sequencing
Fair sequencing is an approach to blockchain transaction processing that aims to prevent the manipulation of transaction order for profit. The goal is to ensure that transactions are processed in a neutral, "first-come, first-served" manner, regardless of the fees paid.
This would effectively eliminate the advantage currently held by those who use high gas fees or complex MEV strategies to front-run others. While this is seen as a more equitable system, it is technically challenging to implement without sacrificing performance or decentralization.
Various solutions, such as threshold encryption or decentralized sequencers, are being developed to address this issue. Fair sequencing is a major topic of research in the blockchain space, as it addresses fundamental concerns about the fairness of decentralized finance.
It represents a shift towards prioritizing user experience and market integrity over the unchecked pursuit of MEV. The success of these initiatives will be a key indicator of the maturity of the DeFi ecosystem.
