## Deterministic Execution

Deterministic execution means that for a given input, a computer program will always produce the exact same output, regardless of the environment or the time it is executed. In the context of blockchain, this is a fundamental requirement because all nodes in the network must agree on the state of the ledger.

If execution were not deterministic, nodes would disagree on the outcome of transactions, breaking the consensus mechanism. This is achieved by isolating the scripting language from external data sources, which are typically brought in via secure oracles.

For derivatives, this ensures that the settlement of an options contract is identical for every participant on the network. It removes the ambiguity inherent in traditional finance where human intervention or differing system states might lead to disputes.
