Deep Chain Reorgs

Deep Chain Reorgs refer to significant network reorganizations that replace a large number of blocks in the canonical chain. These are rare and usually indicate a serious vulnerability or an active attack on the protocol.

For users of financial derivatives, a deep reorg is catastrophic as it can wipe out trades, liquidate positions incorrectly, and invalidate collateral transfers. Because of this, protocols often have built-in "checkpointing" or manual intervention procedures to halt the network if a deep reorg is detected.

Protecting against deep reorgs is a primary concern for any platform that handles significant capital, as the reputational and financial damage would be irreversible.
