Cross-Platform Collateralization

Cross-platform collateralization refers to the practice of using the same digital assets as collateral across multiple decentralized finance protocols simultaneously. While this increases capital efficiency for the user, it significantly amplifies systemic risk.

If the value of the collateral drops, the user faces liquidation on all platforms at once. This creates massive sell pressure across the entire market during a downturn.

It also makes it difficult for any single protocol to accurately assess the borrower's total leverage. Regulators and risk managers view this as a major threat to stability.

It highlights the need for better information sharing and unified risk management across the DeFi space.
