Cross-chain relayer nodes are independent entities or software agents that monitor events occurring on a blockchain and relay that information to another chain. They act as the communication layer for decentralized bridges, detecting when a transaction occurs, such as a token deposit.

Once an event is detected, the relayer submits a cryptographic proof to the destination chain to trigger the necessary smart contract function. These nodes must be highly available and secure to ensure the bridge functions reliably and without downtime.

In decentralized systems, relayer networks often use consensus mechanisms to agree on the validity of events before submitting them. This prevents malicious actors from submitting false information to the destination chain.
