Creditworthiness

Creditworthiness is the assessment of a participant's ability to honor their financial obligations. In traditional finance, this is based on credit scores and financial history, but in crypto, it is often based on the value of collateral provided.

Since many crypto protocols are permissionless, creditworthiness is effectively reduced to the amount of liquid capital one can lock into a contract. However, some advanced protocols are experimenting with decentralized identity and reputation systems to assess creditworthiness beyond mere collateral.

This is a developing field that aims to increase capital efficiency by allowing under-collateralized lending based on historical behavior. It remains a key challenge in moving crypto finance toward broader institutional adoption.
