Consensus-Based Price Feeds

Consensus-based price feeds are a method of determining asset prices by aggregating data from multiple independent nodes and using a consensus mechanism to reach an agreement on the true value. This approach is designed to prevent any single entity from controlling the price information provided to a protocol.

Nodes might be incentivized to provide accurate data through staking mechanisms or penalized for reporting outliers. By requiring a majority or a weighted average of nodes to agree, the protocol ensures that the price feed remains robust even if some nodes are offline or malicious.

This is the gold standard for decentralized finance, as it provides a reliable and transparent basis for all financial derivatives. The effectiveness of these feeds depends on the diversity and number of participating nodes, as well as the design of the consensus algorithm.
