Blockchain Block Finality
Blockchain block finality is the guarantee that once a transaction or block is added to the blockchain, it cannot be altered, reversed, or canceled. Different consensus mechanisms offer varying degrees of finality, ranging from probabilistic to deterministic.
In a probabilistic model, like Bitcoin's proof-of-work, finality increases as more blocks are added on top of the transaction. In contrast, some proof-of-stake protocols offer near-instant deterministic finality.
For trading venues, the time to finality dictates how quickly a deposit or withdrawal can be considered settled and safe to use for further trading. Slow finality can create liquidity bottlenecks and increase the risk of double-spending or reorg-related losses.
Glossary
Threshold Signature Schemes
Cryptography ⎊ Threshold Signature Schemes represent a cryptographic advancement enabling a collective signature generation, requiring a predefined number of participants to approve a transaction before it is validated.
