BIP39 Wordlist

The BIP39 wordlist is a standardized set of 2048 English words used to represent the entropy of a seed phrase in a human-readable format. By mapping large, random numbers to these words, the standard makes it much easier for users to record and back up their wallets without errors.

The wordlist is carefully designed so that the first four letters of each word are unique, which helps in detecting typos during the recovery process. When a wallet generates a seed, it uses the wordlist to encode the binary entropy into a phrase that can be stored on paper or metal.

This standard is globally recognized and supported by almost every major wallet provider, ensuring that users can easily migrate their assets between different software and hardware solutions. It is a fundamental piece of infrastructure for user-friendly self-custody.
