## Antithetic Variates

Antithetic variates is a variance reduction technique that improves the efficiency of Monte Carlo simulations by introducing negative correlation between pairs of simulated paths. Instead of generating independent random paths, for every path generated using a set of random numbers, a corresponding path is generated using the inverse of those random numbers.

Because the two paths are negatively correlated, the average of the pair tends to be closer to the true mean than the average of two independent paths. This process significantly reduces the variance of the estimator, leading to faster convergence for complex option pricing models.

In the context of derivatives, this method is widely used to stabilize the estimation of delta and gamma values. It is a foundational tool for quantitative analysts working with path-dependent options where computational efficiency is paramount.
