## Address Derivation

Address derivation is the process of generating a human-readable address from a public key, usually through a series of hashing functions. For example, in Bitcoin, the public key is hashed using SHA-256 and RIPEMD-160, and then encoded into a base58 string to create a wallet address.

This process hides the raw public key and provides a shorter, more convenient format for users to share. Address derivation ensures that users do not need to manage long, complex keys manually.

It also allows for the creation of many unique addresses from a single key pair, which is a key privacy practice in many blockchains. The consistency of this process is what allows different wallet software to recognize the same funds.
