VWAP Manipulation

Tactic

VWAP manipulation, or Volume-Weighted Average Price manipulation, is the illicit practice of intentionally influencing an asset’s price to artificially affect its VWAP for personal gain. Common tactics involve placing large, strategically timed buy or sell orders at specific points during the trading day to push the price in a desired direction. Traders might also use spoofing or layering techniques to create false impressions of supply or demand. These actions aim to distort the calculated average price over a period. This is a deceptive trading practice.
