Voting Power Decay

Mechanism

Voting power decay represents the programmatic reduction of influence attributed to a governance token or derivative position as the associated lock-up period or maturity duration approaches expiration. This mathematical function incentivizes long-term commitment to a protocol by granting participants with greater time-horizon exposure a disproportionate share of decision-making authority. As the temporal distance to the end of a staking contract decreases, the weight of the user vote linearly or exponentially attenuates to reflect the diminishing capital commitment to the ecosystem.
