Stablecoin Under-Collateralization

Definition

Stablecoin under-collateralization occurs when the total market value of assets held in reserve falls below the nominal value of the issued stablecoin supply. This condition introduces significant credit risk, as the protocol lacks sufficient liquidity to facilitate a full redemption of tokens at the intended peg. Traders and analysts monitor these reserves to gauge the solvency of the underlying infrastructure, especially during periods of extreme market volatility.
