Sequencer Collusion Risk

Mechanism

This systemic hazard emerges within decentralized rollups where a centralized operator possesses the exclusive authority to reorder or censor incoming transaction batches. By exploiting privileged access to the mempool, a sequencer can front-run or sandwich user trades, extracting maximum extractable value at the direct expense of liquidity providers and options traders. Such behavior undermines the core premise of fair execution, effectively transforming a transparent financial protocol into an arena of information asymmetry where the gatekeeper captures the spread intended for participants.
