Protocol Oracle Manipulation

Definition

Protocol oracle manipulation refers to the intentional distortion of price feeds provided by decentralized oracles to trigger favorable liquidations, illicit profit extraction, or unfair settlement conditions in financial derivatives. By temporarily inflating or deflating the spot price of an underlying asset on a low-liquidity exchange, an actor forces a DeFi protocol to execute trades or collateral adjustments based on inaccurate data. This exploit exploits the lag or aggregation methodology inherent in price discovery mechanisms across connected networks.
