Finality

In the context of Proof-of-Work (PoW) cryptocurrencies, finality represents the point at which a block becomes irreversibly part of the blockchain, effectively settled and resistant to alteration. This assurance stems from the computational effort expended by miners to secure the chain, making a rollback prohibitively expensive. The probabilistic nature of PoW means finality isn’t absolute, but rather achieved after a sufficient number of subsequent blocks are built upon the target block, increasing the cost of a successful attack. Consequently, the depth of the chain—measured in blocks—directly correlates with the degree of finality.
