Perpetual Future Settlement

Settlement

Perpetual Future Settlement (PFS) represents a novel mechanism primarily utilized within cryptocurrency derivatives markets, particularly perpetual swaps, to maintain price alignment between the derivative contract and the underlying spot asset. Unlike traditional futures contracts with predetermined expiry dates, PFS eliminates the need for periodic settlement, instead employing a dynamic funding rate system. This rate, calculated periodically, adjusts based on the difference between the perpetual contract price and the spot price, incentivizing traders to keep the contract price anchored to the spot market. Consequently, PFS facilitates continuous trading and price discovery without the complexities of physical delivery or cash settlement.
