Order Book Pruning

Depth

Order book pruning, within cryptocurrency derivatives and options trading, fundamentally addresses the issue of excessive order book depth, particularly in less liquid markets. This process involves selectively removing stale, unlikely-to-be-executed orders from the order book, thereby improving its informational efficiency and reducing noise. The rationale stems from the observation that a large number of resting orders, especially those far from the current market price, can obscure genuine liquidity and distort price discovery mechanisms. Consequently, pruning aims to present a clearer picture of immediate supply and demand, enhancing market quality.
