Meta-Transaction

Action

A meta-transaction, within decentralized systems, represents a digitally signed instruction executed off-chain, subsequently batched and submitted to the blockchain by a designated entity, often a relay. This circumvents direct gas payment by the user, enabling interactions with smart contracts without requiring native token holdings at the time of execution. Consequently, it expands accessibility and reduces friction for users engaging with decentralized applications, particularly those with limited capital or infrequent network participation. The relay, in turn, may monetize this service through a fee structure, creating an economic incentive for infrastructure provision.
