The Majority Attack Probability (MAP) represents the likelihood that a coordinated group of malicious actors can gain control of a blockchain network or a decentralized system by exceeding a predefined threshold of voting power or computational resources. Within cryptocurrency, this typically refers to a 51% attack on a proof-of-work blockchain, where an attacker controls more than half of the network’s hashing power. However, the concept extends to other consensus mechanisms and governance systems, encompassing scenarios where a majority coalition can manipulate outcomes, such as altering transaction history or influencing protocol upgrades.
