Hub-and-Spoke Model

Architecture

The Hub-and-Spoke model describes a network architecture where multiple peripheral nodes, or spokes, connect to a central node, or hub. In the context of blockchain and derivatives, this model often involves a central Layer 1 chain acting as the hub, with various Layer 2 solutions or sidechains serving as spokes. This architecture simplifies cross-chain communication by channeling all traffic through a single point of aggregation. The hub provides security and finality for transactions processed on the spokes.
