Hash Target

Algorithm

A Hash Target, within cryptocurrency derivatives, represents a pre-defined cryptographic hash value used as a condition for the payout of an option contract. This mechanism allows for the creation of options on future, yet unknown, values of an underlying asset, such as Bitcoin’s price at a specific block height. The target’s selection introduces a probabilistic element, where the option’s value is contingent on the actual hash of the block matching the predetermined target, influencing the risk-reward profile for both buyer and seller.
