Generalized State Channels

Architecture

Generalized State Channels represent a layer-2 scaling solution for blockchains, enabling off-chain transaction processing and settlement on-chain only when the channel closes. This architecture fundamentally alters transaction throughput by reducing congestion on the primary blockchain, offering a pathway to increased scalability without altering the consensus mechanism. The design relies on cryptographic commitments and dispute resolution mechanisms to ensure the integrity of off-chain interactions, effectively creating a private, bidirectional payment channel between participants. Consequently, this approach minimizes on-chain data requirements and associated transaction fees, making micropayments and high-frequency trading more economically viable.
