Flashbots Auction Mechanism

Algorithm

The Flashbots Auction Mechanism represents a priority fee market operating within the Ethereum blockchain, designed to mitigate Miner Extractable Value (MEV) and promote a more transparent and equitable transaction ordering process. It functions as a sealed-bid auction where searchers submit bundles of transactions, along with a prioritized fee, directly to miners, bypassing the public mempool. This direct communication aims to reduce front-running and sandwich attacks, common issues in decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and other on-chain financial activities, by internalizing transaction ordering. Successful bundles are those offering the highest fee, incentivizing miners to include them in a block, and the mechanism’s design seeks to align miner incentives with the broader network health.
