Exchange Network Effects

Liquidity

These effects emerge when increased trading volume on a centralized or decentralized exchange platform drastically reduces bid-ask spreads and minimizes slippage for participants. As more market makers and traders converge on a specific venue, the order book deepens and provides the necessary capacity to execute large-sized crypto derivative positions without moving the underlying spot or future price. This self-reinforcing cycle of capital concentration establishes a dominant venue that smaller exchanges find mathematically difficult to replicate.
