Dusting Attacks

Anonymity

Dusting attacks represent a specific privacy threat within cryptocurrency ecosystems, particularly impacting privacy coins and layer-2 solutions. These attacks involve sending minuscule amounts of cryptocurrency, often referred to as “dust,” to a large number of addresses. The objective is not financial gain through the dust itself, but rather to de-anonymize users by linking their addresses through transaction tracking and cluster analysis. Such tracking can reveal relationships between seemingly disparate addresses, compromising user privacy and potentially exposing transaction patterns.
