Cross-Chain Swaps

Mechanism

Cross-chain swaps enable the direct exchange of digital assets between different blockchain networks without relying on a centralized intermediary. These atomic swaps typically use cryptographic proofs and time-locked contracts to ensure both parties either receive their desired asset or the transaction reverts. This mechanism enhances interoperability within the fragmented cryptocurrency ecosystem. It removes the need for trusted third parties, reducing counterparty risk. The underlying technology often involves hash time-locked contracts (HTLCs).
