CLOBs

Architecture

Central Limit Order Books (CLOBs) represent the foundational infrastructure for price discovery and order matching within electronic exchanges, extending to cryptocurrency platforms and derivatives markets. These systems aggregate buy and sell orders, displaying them in a tiered format based on price and quantity, facilitating transparent interaction between market participants. Functionally, a CLOB prioritizes orders based on price-time priority, meaning the best bid and offer are executed first, with earlier orders at the same price taking precedence. Modern implementations increasingly incorporate algorithmic trading interfaces and high-frequency trading capabilities, demanding robust system design and low-latency execution.
