Centralized Counterparty Trust

Mechanism

Centralized counterparty trust refers to the reliance on a single, authoritative entity to manage and guarantee the settlement of financial transactions, particularly in traditional derivatives markets. This model places the responsibility for risk management, collateral management, and trade execution on a central clearinghouse or exchange. The counterparty acts as the buyer to every seller and the seller to every buyer, effectively eliminating bilateral counterparty risk between individual participants.
