Cash Settlement Options

Settlement

In cryptocurrency derivatives, cash settlement options represent a contract resolution mechanism where the final payout is determined by the difference between the option’s strike price and the underlying asset’s price at expiration, expressed in fiat currency or a stablecoin. This contrasts with physical settlement, where the underlying asset itself is exchanged. The valuation process involves calculating this difference and disbursing the corresponding cash amount to the option holder, effectively avoiding the need for direct asset transfer. Such arrangements are particularly prevalent in markets where direct ownership or custody of the underlying crypto asset presents logistical or regulatory challenges.
