Block Sequencers

Mechanism

Block sequencers are specialized nodes responsible for collecting and ordering transactions in Layer 2 scaling solutions before submitting them to the Layer 1 blockchain. This mechanism centralizes transaction ordering to improve throughput and reduce latency for users on the Layer 2 network. The sequencer creates a batch of transactions and posts a summary of the state changes to the Layer 1 chain, ensuring data availability and finality. This process is fundamental to the operation of optimistic and zero-knowledge rollups.
